When you start paying people to do stuff around church, e.g. youth work, admin, maintenance, etc... where do you stop, and does this mean you are releasing folk for the proper focus of ministry & mission... but where do you stop?
Does it de-skill folk, because there is a paid person taking on a role... my thoughts might sound a bit random, but that's because they are! If we're trying to encourage people to be taking on roles suited to gifting, calling, etc... but some folk can't do that because they need to earning money, in a paid job, then does this free them up...
I'd be interested to hear from churches that have a mix of paid, unpaid roles and how it is benefitting the church as a whole, and the church's mission as a whole, as well as how it has been taken on board by the church as a whole...
Looking forward to your input on this one, theolgical reflections, as well as practical points! :-)
Steve
