Video projectors. We are looking to upgrade, but past experience teaches me that it is hard to find the right product. Have you a video projector that you are pleased with? The last projector we purchased simply wasn't up to the job - DLP 1500 lumens - we need one that can handle a reasonable amount of ambient light/ AND display a good colour (ours often looks washed out and doesn't display the colours well).
Any advice appreciated

Hi Phil,
I've been running a community cinema at Harefield. The advice I was given was that if I wanted a good image it was all about the black out. You can get away with lass than 1000 lumens with a total blackout. Curtains are usually not much good. The best black out matterial is a blind. The problem with ambient light is that you have to seriously ramp up the lumens which makes the projector and the replacement lamps much more expensive. One thig that can help is that if the ambiant light is from an artificial source, it can be directed away from the screen. The only other option is rear projection or a large flat screen tv which might be about the same price as say a 3000 lumen projector if you include the cost of a replacement bulb.
Yep, 3,500 lumens is about right for daylight use. But, as I travel around, the really great images come when churches have a very good quality screen and can stop light (especially fluorescent lamps) shine directly onto the screen. Our problem in older building is that we put the screen in the pulpit which is situated in the place for the best natural light!
