CBA Ministers

welcome

Hello there. Welcome to CBAMinisters network. This is an attempt to provide a more targetted space for baptist ministers, youth & children's workers, particularly in the CBA, to share ideas, usable images, music, sketches, monologues, illustrations etc. AND even chat to each other!!

Thanks to all those who have contributed so far. I encourage you all to simply have a bash. I have just returned from a weekend away with the church to a place called Chantmarle (any been there?) which was an action packed time. I hope it was all worth the effort!! I thought I'd include a picture from my Summer hols in Norfolk, which I have found to be a really good place for chilling and walking along empty sandy beaches. Wonderful. Hope you are doing well.

Please note that images need to be yours (copyright issues). You will see that I have embedded some videos from reelworship, who provide the necessary code to do this. Other similar sites will do the same.

Please do sign up with your forum, which you will find under GROUPS. This will hopefully provide a good way of staying in touch with folk in your forum.

Please read Forum note on PowerPoints and use of images. Thanks
Colin Pye

Daily Manna from the Net for Tuesday, November 10, 2009 [Acts 4:8-12]

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: 'Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a cripple and are asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. He is ' 'the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.' Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.' Acts 4:8-12 NIV Listen

Easter Meditation

One of the things that I struggled with as a minister of a local church, was keeping the distinctiveness of the different seasons of the church year. It felt that although we called it ‘Advent’, often it was simply Christmas come early. And the same was true of Holy Week. It was hard to resist the pull of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen from the outset of the week. However, I persevered, and while, at the Good Friday Walk of Witness, I could understand the need to express something… Continue

Rhythm of Jesus

I included the following in my blog the other day but thought it was worth sharing with CBA Ministers as well. It happened in the context of our prayers as National Settlement Team and Regional Minister Team Leaders' Meeting:

Over the three days we pray together and on Wednesday one of my colleagues, Phil, led us in a characteristically creative and inspired reflection. We thought about John 11 and the death and resurrection of Lazarus, and went on… Continue

Retreat, vulnerable relationship and passion

This morning we held one of our theological reflection groups for newly accredited ministers. I look forward to these occasions as they are a good group of reflective practioners and invariably I come away enriched.

Sometimes I will provide some input, or we will invite someone in to speak on an issue, but also the ministers themselves are invited to contribute a paper on an aspect that they are exploring or raise an issue for discussion. Today we thought about the 'advantages and drawbacks for… Continue

Wonder and Wondering

Just to let you know that I've recently begun my own blog, Wonder and Wondering, and you can find it here. I've been thinking about doing one for a long time, but CBA Ministers gave me the opportunity to dip my toes, and now I've begun. Take a visit and leave a comment.

Wink quote

Moved by a quote from Walter Wink's book, 'Interpretation', which appears in the latest BMF Journal. I only wish I had the Journal sooner for preaching on the Transfiguration last Sunday !

Transfiguration: the pivot between Epiphany and Lent
'Transfiguration is living by vision: standing foursquare in the midst of a broken, tortured, oppressed, starving, dehumannized reality, yet seeing the invisible, calling it to come... The beyond shines out in our midst - on the way to the Cross'.
